Upper House Spa at Gothia Towers, Gothenburg

For a few years now, Shaun has wanted to visit a theme park in Gothenburg, Sweden called Liseberg so we decided to spend a few days over there as a late birthday present for him.

Knowing we had a busy couple of days ahead of us, we decided to REALLY treat ourselves on the first night and booked into the Upper House Spa in Gothia Towers for an evening of pampering and relaxation.  We picked the Luxury Evening package, it was pretty expensive (around £120pp) but the experience was absolutely amazing and worth every penny.

We arrived and headed straight up to the Spa reception to be welcomed by a lovely staff member who explained the process to us.  Our package included champagne and canapés so first of all we headed up to the Upper House restaurant and were seated next to a big window with an amazing view. We were given a glass of champagne and a few different canapés to enjoy while looking out at the setting sun.  We did feel extremely under-dressed though, our flight was delayed so we only JUST had enough time to get to the hostel, dump our bags and hurry to the Spa so we were in jeans and tshirts while everyone else in the restaurant were dressed to the nines!  Thankfully the hostel we were staying in (Spot On Hostel & Sports Bar) was only a ten minute walk from Gothia Towers so we didn't have to go far!

After we'd finished, we headed back to the Spa reception and we were handed keycards that got us into the changing rooms and also opened the lockers which was really cool! Inside the lockers were bathrobes, slippers (which we got to keep) and a towel and when we came out the staff member gave us a bag of toiletries to use in the spa and then took us on a tour.

The toiletry bag contained:

Body Scrub
Face Mask
Body Oil
Face Cloth
Exfoliating Glove

The spa has three pools (all heated), two indoor and one outdoor. The thing that makes the outdoor pool so special is that it protrudes from the side of the building 19 floors up and has a GLASS BOTTOM so you can see the street below!  Don't worry if you're afraid of heights, bubbles come on every ten minutes and when they're on you can't see the bottom!

There are heated loungers next to a large window so you can relax with a view, plenty showers to wash your products off, a big sauna with a bowl of crushed ice outside for you to rub all over your skin and a bucket of ice-cold water that you could pull over yourself! (Because why not?) There are also three different steam rooms for you to choose from, one of which (a hammam) has a big heated stone in the middle and shower heads all around the stone, you can use your products in there, relax on the stone and then rinse them off with the shower heads. Downstairs they have a couple of rooms where you can just sit and chill with a drink or have some fruit, one of them is a quiet room so no phones are allowed so it's very peaceful.

When we arrived, there were 4 or 5 other couples there but we stayed the whole three hours and we were pretty much on our own for most of the last hour which was amazing! We've never had an experience like this before and, although it's expensive, we would definitely do it again because it is SO worth it!
